General Notes:
Thomas died in London Town, now London, England and is buried in Parish of St. Margaret's Church Westminister in London.
Thomas and his family lived in the older section of London that was known as London Town during the 1600's. They were patrons of St. Margaret's Church
Westminister that stands today adjacent to Westminister Abbey. Contemporary
with Thomas was a Richard Gassaway whose daughters Elizabeth and Jane were
christened 6 Aug 1635 and in the year 1638, respectively, in St. Margaret's.
Thomas was married twice, as three of his children, Mary, Joyce, and Thomas, were christened prior to his marriage in 1631 to Anne Collingwood.
The Collingwood family was one of the older families of London but at this
point, Anne's family has not been identified. Five burials were recorded in the registers of St. Margaret's Church Westminister through the years 1603-1665. John Collingwood was buried 7 Sep 1603; George Collingwood, 9 Jul 1621; and John Collingwood, 25 Aug 1665. Col. Daniel Collingwood was buried in Westmimister Abbey 9 Apr 1681.
The date of marriage of Thomas Gassaway to Anne Collingwood, the date of his burial; the christening dates of his children, and the burial dates of his children who died prior to 1643 were recorded in the parish register and are extant. The parish records have been copied and published in 1914 under the title Memorials of St. Margaret's Church Westminister.
The compilers visited St. Margaret's Church Westminister in Oct 1973 and
examined several of the old parish registers at that time.
