Cliff, I just saw your forum for the first time tonight. Just wanted you to know the tombstones for Cynthia Portwood etc. are indeed in the Hackett cemetery. I was at that cemetery this past fall to check everything out as it had been vandalized several times. The county comm. have now cleaned it up and put a name over it. However there are many stones missing. I know for as a child I used to visit this cemetery many times. It is located adjacent to my family farm. My Mother and I used to pick blackberries along the edge of the cemetery. I still own the Davidson farm at Carlisle. Richard Davidson oldest son of George Davidson is buried there and my father always put a flag on his grave each memorial day. Did you know that George Davidson was a couple of years younger than his brother Richard? When their father died Richard settled the estate and took his brothers and sisters with hiim to Carlisle and settled. Richard recieved land there for his service in the War of 1812.His pension is in the national archives in Washington and is very interesting reading.
Of course George's marriage to Cynthia Portwood is in Ky. records, which I am sure you have. Did you know that George Davidson, father of Richard and George was married to Mary Holloway? She was the widow of Nathan Holloway who died very young and left her with a baby daughter Susannah. Susannah was raised by George and there is reference to her being his stepdaughter in the Jessamine Co., Ky records. What we have found recently was that Susannah sued her Mother and George over her fathers estate. The suit was in Jessamine Co. She thought she did not get her share of the land. The suit is on file at the Ky. Historical Society and is very interesting. In reality what happened was that Susannah's grandfather Jacob Hunter (father of Mary Hunter Holloway Davidson) sold it to George Davidson. There for Nathan never owned it and it was not part of his estate. The suit was dropped by 1812 because that was about the time George died. There is a deed in Jessamine fcounty, Ky. listing all of the children of George and Mary. This was most fortunate for the Sullivan county courthouse burned and everything was destroyed. The deed was sent to Ky. so the land in Jessamine county could be sold and all of the children and their spouses signed. Wonderful piece of genealogical information! If you already have this, I apologize for repeating, but since I grew up on the land in Haddon twp. and know the cemetery so well, I just had to share the info. There is a stone at the cemetery for an Elizabeth Portwood. She is 100 years old. Also when I was growing up there were many Willis families who were our neighbors, however many of them are now deceased and only a couple left.
